What is the format of WCIT 2012?

The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2012) will feature the following components:

  • A World Tech Jam, where stakeholders and civil society will collaborate and contribute ideas online.
  • A thought leadership conference featuring visionary keynotes from industry, government and academia
  • A Business-to-Business (B2B) event – All participants will be invited to use the B2B networking & scheduling tool in order to identify other participants and book meetings with those who best meet their business development objectives
  • A Gala Diner: the World Summit Youth Award
  • Programs for accompanying persons
How many people are you expecting, and who attends?

We expect up to 3,000 participants to join us in Montréal for WCIT 2012, with at least 70% holding C-level positions.

70% of attendees at previous WCITs came from the private sector, 25% came from the public sector, and 5% represented the academic and research sectors.

Communications will be conducted in English and French during the World Congress on Information Technology 2012. The conference sessions will be in English. We may offer simultaneous translation. The choice of languages available will be based on registration numbers.

The World Congress on Information Technology 2012 does not accept proposals from speakers. Instead, we sent a personal invitation to a limited number of thought leaders who best fit the program, and who we firmly believe will inspire the wide range of attendees at WCIT 2012.

What is the WCIT 2012 Canadian ICT Showcase?

WCIT 2012 will propose a “Showcase of Canadian ICT Innovations”. Attendees will have an opportunity to discover the breadth of Canadian ICT ingenuity. The digital content will be exhibited in attractive modules throughout the Congress. There will also be a virtual version of the showcase available.

Planning: Preparing Your Arrival

When should I plan to arrive for the World Congress on Information Technology?

WCIT 2012 will begin with the Opening Ceremony at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, followed by program sessions and a Welcome Reception on Monday evening. Attendees who wish to maximize their time at the Congress should arrive on Sunday, October 21. On-site Registration will open at 1:00 p.m.

What should I bring with me?

We won’t provide you with a packing list, but there are three things that you must bring:

  • Your confirmation number. This will facilitate the retrieval of your registration information. Please note: All badges must be picked-up on site. Badges will NOT be mailed. Read WCIT 2012 Guide to on-site registration.
  • Photo identification. You must show your badge and at least one piece of photo ID to our security personnel at the access points to the venue, and attendees are subject to random ID checks throughout the event. Acceptable forms of photo identification include national ID cards, passports or a driver license with picture.
  • An adequate supply of business cards: With up to 3,000 participants, chances are excellent that you will find many people with whom you wish to exchange cards!
What is the dress code?

The World Congress on Information Technology is many things: a conference, a showcase of ICT capabilities and a place to do business. Business attire is what you will see most often. Suits and ties are the norm for men, and women typically wear jackets with skirts or trousers. No matter what you choose to wear, we definitely recommend comfortable shoes

Should I convert my native currency to Canadian dollars? Where can I get Canadian dollars?

All transactions in the city and at the World Congress on Information Technology will be carried out in Canadian dollars, so you will definitely need to have Canadian money in your pocket. You may wish to exchange money at your local financial institution before you arrive in Montréal. Don't worry if you need more. There are numerous ATMs and currency exchange locations available downtown. There are currency conversion outlets at most international airports. There is such an outlet in the international arrivals hall of the Montréal Pierre-Élliott Trudeau International Airport. Can I hold meetings on site?

B2B Meetings

One of the reasons why people come to the World Congress on Information Technology is to network and hold meetings. Once your registration is complete, you will have access to a B2B networking & scheduling tool that will help you to research participants and book meetings prior to your arrival.

With up to 3,000 participants, there will also be many ad hoc meetings, and you will find many casual places to meet at the Palais for these informal meetings.

Hospitality suite
